How to use the chart
Turn the resistor so the gold, silver or widely spaced band is on the right. Look up the first bands as digits, the next as a power-of-ten multiplier and the last as tolerance. A 6th band gives the temperature coefficient. If in doubt, measure with a multimeter: color reading under warm light is easy to get wrong, especially red, orange and brown.
Frequently asked questions
What is the color code for 10k?
Brown, black, orange, gold (4-band) or brown, black, black, red, brown (5-band).
What does a gold band mean?
As the last band it means ±5% tolerance; as the multiplier it means ×0.1, used for values below 10 Ω.
